From 15-21 October 2012, Icograda and the Graphic Design Association of Malaysia (wREGA), will host Rediscovery 2012.
Icograda Design Week in Sarawak 2012 will provide a platform for sharing, collaboration and inspiration among local and international designers in an atmosphere steeped in Sarawak’s indigenous cultures and traditions. Swinburne University Sarawak Campus, the main venue, is a leading education hub in the region. The largest state in Malaysia, Sarawak holds a rich history and sees significant cultural convergence. For all that it is modern, technologically advanced and as well developed as any regular metropolis, Kuching – the capital city of Sarawak – is equally rich in the arts and boasts artists of international caliber.

About the Theme

The theme for the 2012 Icograda Design Week in Sarawak is ‘Rediscovery’. Rediscovery reveals and celebrates indigenous design. Rediscovery demystifies the magic of Borneo for local and international designers. It invites participants to survey practices of local indigenous people and see how it relates to and provides context for the future of design.

Objectives

Through Rediscovery’s diverse programming, we will share case studies demonstrating the integration of design strategy and technology to develop sustainable business models for craft industries; showcase ways design and branding can develop and differentiate creative and eco-tourism; and explore cultural diversity in indigenous design.
